How to back up your private key
Safely reveal, copy, check iCloud backup, and mark your Wageso private key as backed up.

Why you should back it up
Your Wageso private key is critical for syncing your data and restoring it when needed. You may need it when moving to a new device, reinstalling the app, or syncing data to this device.
Backing it up does not mean copying it everywhere. The goal is to keep one reliable, private, durable copy that you can find when you need it.
Back up from Data & Sync
Use the app flow when you are ready:
Open Settings
Tap the gear icon, then open Data & Sync.
Open View private key
Tap View private key. The key appears as a hidden list of parts numbered from 1 to 24.
Reveal or copy it
If you are in a safe place, use Reveal private key to read it or Copy private key to move it into secure storage.
Mark it as backed up
After the secure backup is complete, return to Data & Sync and mark I've backed it up.
Be careful when revealing or copying
Everything on the private key screen is sensitive. Reveal or copy it only when you are actually ready to store it.
- Do not reveal it during screen sharing, on public transport, in an open office, or in a recorded call.
- After copying, paste it only into a trusted password manager, encrypted vault, or private storage.
- Clean up temporary notes, clipboard history, or screenshots after the secure backup is complete.
- Open the saved copy once to confirm it is readable.
Should I use iCloud Key Backup?
Data & Sync also includes iCloud Key Backup. This option leads to the flow for backing up the private key through iCloud if iCloud Drive is available on your device.
If the iCloud screen says the feature is unavailable, make sure iCloud Drive is enabled. iCloud backup can be convenient, but for long-term access you should also keep the key in another secure place you control.
Safe storage options
Good options include:
- A password manager you trust.
- An encrypted note, vault, or archive only you can open.
- A written backup stored somewhere physically secure.
- A private storage location only you can access.
Avoid these:
- Public or shared cloud notes.
- Messaging apps and email drafts.
- Unprotected screenshots.
- Shared documents.
What does the backed-up mark do?
The I've backed it up option in Data & Sync lets you mark for yourself that the key is stored somewhere safe. This mark does not replace the actual secure backup; it only reminds you of the backup state inside the app.
Mark it only after saving the key somewhere secure and confirming you can find it again.
Next step
After backing up the key, read the restore guide so you understand how Data & Sync, Sync to this device, and the private key fit into changing devices or reinstalling the app.
